Dr Alwyn Fortuin – Specialist Prosthodontist & Advanced Dentistry Expert
With 22 years experience, Dr Alwyn Fortuin is a highly skilled specialist Prosthodontist whose practice focuses on restoring oral function, comfort, and confidence through advanced dental rehabilitation. He earned his Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BChD) in 2004 from the University of the Western Cape, laying a strong foundation in clinical dentistry.
Following his community service in Kuruman and early clinical roles in Cape Town and Kleinzee, Dr Fortuin pursued advanced training in implant dentistry and prosthodontics. He completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Implantology (Cum Laude) in 2008 and went on to specialise in Prosthodontics, earning his MChD in Prosthodontics in 2012 – a four-year specialist qualification that equips him with exceptional expertise in complex dental restorations.
His career spans private practice, advanced implant clinics, and academia. In 2016, he joined the Implant Clinic in Cape Town and later became Head of the Clinical Unit in Prosthodontics and Coordinator of Postgraduate Training at the Prosthodontic Department of Sefako Makgatho University. His academic experience reinforces his commitment to evidence-based practice and training future specialists.
Dr Fortuin has also engaged in innovative research collaborations, including work with researchers at the University of Pretoria on using digital imaging and 3D-printed anatomical models to improve pre-surgical planning for complex facial reconstruction cases – an example of how he stays at the forefront of technology and interdisciplinary care.
Today, Dr Fortuin runs his private practice in Pretoria, offering patients specialist-level care without requiring a referral, and is contracted with most major medical aid schemes, ensuring accessible, high-quality treatment at medical-aid tariff rates.
